will tooth whitening work on a root canaled tooth?

I’m using crest whitestrips supreme (professional) whitestrips from my dentist for whitening. I have an eye tooth that has been root canaled, but not crowned, so it’s the natural tooth, it’s just dead. Will the whitening strips work on this tooth? It’s a few shades darker than my other teeth. thanks.

When a tooth gets a grayish internal stain after a root canal , it will never lighten from whitening strips. It would require a procedure called internal bleaching, where the opening into the tooth that was used for the root canal is re opened into and strong solutions are sealed into the tooth. Even this is not a sure thing and will weaken the tooth further. Your best bet would be to have all of your teeth whitened and then place a porcelain crown on the root canal ed tooth to match the whiter color and to strengthen this brittle tooth. Good luck.

What do they do?
i’ve never gotten my teeth whitened and i am curious.
do they put on a bleach or do one of those blue light treatment things?
How many options are there?
How much do they cost?

This question is a perfect example of why it is not possible to quote prices for dental treatments. The price ranges from free to $1000 for various methods of bleaching and is dependent on different circumstances.

Of course you want to know about free. In my office, we provide free bleaching trays and materials when final records are done for orthodontic patients. So really, bleaching is included with the orthodontic treatment.

For regular patients in the office, the same procedure is $90. For someone who walks in off the street and is not a patient. it is $200. If you want the one hour treatment, Zoom bleaching plus trays for home after, that can run up to $1000. Many offices in my area are about $200 for the regular tray and home system. Downtown fees are about $400.

Doesn’t this confuse you even more?

Can I let whitening tooth paste on my teeth?

Weird question, but I have whitening tooth paste..
Do you think if I put in on my teeth and let it sit for like 10 min or whatever that it would whiting my teeth better and faster than just brushing everyday?
Crest whitening strips hurt my teeth!

Brush your teeth for 5minutes 4 times a day, using Crest whitening expressions toothpaste for 2 minutes, then using a mixture of baking soda and peroxide for 2 minutes, then use mouth rinse with fluoride for the last minute.

Also, smoking and drinking coffee discolors teeth.

Does anybody know of a really good teeth whitening tooth paste?

yeah..my teeth are pretty white, but not white enough, any tips, suggestions, recommendations on teeth whitening???

Most of the teeth whitening products, toothpaste, rinse,strips do about the same thing. It’s just a personal preference when it comes to what brand. Besides the obvious there are also toothpastes for smokers and coffee drinkers. Or you may want to try a home remedy for whitening by using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
If you want to shell out about $500.00 you can go to a dentist and get the "Brite Smile treatment" It’s pretty expensive but it’s gaurenteed. This was the route that I took and I could not believe it when I got home. I had that Hollywood celebrity smile.

I hate my teeth I would like to have them whitened and smoothened. However I have heard it is not a very good idea…

Teeth whitening is fine just don’t swallow much of the solution ’cause it can make you sick at your stomach. Not that you would swallow it but it can make your mouth water ALOT & make you feel like swallowing, just spit it out. Also be careful to keep the gel off of your gums!! The stronger solution can "burn" your gums & if they get burned by the gel it kinda turns them white, they will recover but it makes them sore & looks weird to have white gums, of course! The whitening goes through each layer of your tooth until it whitens throughout so if you see spots, don’t freak, it will eventually change. Whitening can also ’cause your teeth to be sensitive but this is somewhat normal so don’t let it alarm you either ’cause it usually goes away too! It won’t hurt your teeth & you’ll end up with a nice grill so go for it. Just keep these things in mind & be careful when you apply! (over the counter at Wal-mart can be as little as $20. or at dentist office can run up to $500. & anywhere in between) The difference is the strength & how fast it works, the end resurt is usually the same. Dentist office can change in hours, brush on or store bought usually days to weeks.
